DID YOU KNOW?
•The EPA states that an average college student produces 640 pounds of solid waste each year, including 500 disposable cups and 320 pounds of paper.
•Last year Wayne State recycled over 800 tons of recyclable material.

Hydration Station
The Hydration Station uses sensor technology to fill your water bottle which is filled in a few seconds. No longer do you have to tilt or contort your water bottle to get only half of it filled. Not only are these new water stations convenient but they are also sustainable. They facilitate the use of one's own water bottle instead of buying a disposable water container which adds to the waste stream.
WSU already saved over 2.5 million water bottles since the installation of the fountains.

Energy Conservation
-
Green Warriors, a campus-wide sustainability initiative, engages the campus community in a series of green activities, events, awareness of university energy conservation measures and best practices.
-
Wayne State is looking to get the entire campus involved in a new energy efficiency campaign. The WSU community is encouraged to be proactive in conserving energy and Switch It Off! When a room or non-public area is not in use, please turn off the lights in that area.
-
Lighting retrofit: To comply with recent federal regulations, many college campuses are interested in cutting costs and implementing an environmentally friendly light infrastructure and Wayne State is no exception.
-
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, $38 Billion a year is spent on electricity costs for lighting alone in commercial buildings. Wayne State has an annual electricity bill of roughly $13 million and is looking to reduce this number.
